Post Games for Teaching Adjectives
Guess What I am Thinking of

Teacher introduces the game by saying:

I am thinking of a/an ............. (animal, bird, object, person). Guess what it is or who it is by asking me questions.

Ask me questions such as

- Is it a big animal?

- Is it as big as ......?

- Is it bigger than ......?

- Does it eat green leaves?

- Does it eat more than .......?

I will answer only 'Yes' or 'No'.

After the students understand the way the game is to be played they can be asked to play as a whole class or in groups.

They should get only one or two chances to ask questions such as 'Is it an elephant/Is it the fridge/Is it Kapil Dev...

They should be helped to narrow down the choices and arrive at the answer. So if they think it might be an elephant they should ask a question like - Does it have a long trunk? or Is its nose bigger than other animals?

If it is played as a group give marks for good questions using adjectives as well as the right guess.

Post Re: Games for Teaching Adjectives
Teacher starts with a sentence such as:

I went to the biggest market and bought a green monkey with a red cap.

The students should take turns to repeat the sentence and add one more object each.

Example:

Student 1: I went to the biggest market and bought a green monkey with a red cap and a red car.

Student 2: I went to the biggest market and bought a green monkey with a red cap, a red car and a ripe banana.

The third student repeats the whole thing and adds one more item.

As the sentence grows longer and longer students have a lot of fun trying to remember each object and trying to think of new things to add.

The student with the best memory will be able to repeat the whole thing without any promptings from others. The other students listen to the adjectives so many times.

At the end of the game students can be given a homework to write a similar sentence at home and make it as long as possible. The next day they can be asked to read out the sentence to class and pin it up on the notice board.

Below the longest sentence teacher can give stars and pin up a No Homework During Weekend Award.

Post Re: Games for Teaching Adjectives
These are classroom games that the teacher can play with minimum resources in class.

But these games can be played online using Google Waves. All the students will need Google Wave access if they want to play the game. Just as the students take turns to make guesses or make statements, they will type out whatever they want to say on Google Wave and the whole class can play it.

For more teaching activities using Google Wave please join the teachers group at http://groups.google.com/group/teachersonwave and then participate in the waves for teachers at http://go.askrangoo.com/teachers [this is a shortened link that will redirect to the teachers waves]. To post on these waves it is necessary to be part of the teacher group.
